Bad mojo is right. I barely tapped my rear brake after I saw Mike go down and next thing I know I was down.

We both came out okay. The only injury is my left foot where the scooter fell on it.

I hope you all understood why we took off early. My foot was killing me and I was so upset over the whole incident.

Guess that's why we have insurance. Already called and filed a claim so I guess next step is having it estimated. My deductible is $100, and I think I have over $100 in damage. Maybe it's time to invest in some chrome guards. I'm due for my first Motohio service next week, so I'll get an estimate then.

Well, rear brake was the correct thing to do; I had assumed you grabbed a handful of front and went down.

Totally understand you guys heading back. I would have been plenty upset, too.

Ask Motohio how much an estimate is. I don't know if insurance covers the estimate but it can be expensive...

You really think Motohio would charge to estimate the damage?

I was thinking that it would be free. Good call. I'll talk to 'em next Saturday.

Estimates aren't freebies anymore. Especially on damaged scoots. An estimate on mechanical stuff is usually just out of the book. Damaged scoots usually take more time to figure an estimate; so they charge for it.

In your case, they may just say you need a new fender and cowl. Then, they may not charge you for the estimate.

If they want to take the front fender off to fix it you're going to get nailed for labor which is huge. Of course, your insurance will pay for it.

My guess is that if they want to bring it back to original, you'll pay at least 1K. They can order a new fender and cowl, it's the labor for installing the fender that stacks up. You could take the settlement money and do a pretty reasonable job of it yourself for a third the cost. That is if you rubber mallet the fender and have a local painter paint the cowl. I have an extra spare wheel cover if you want it. No charge.

Mike may have an even bigger headache with his. If he wants it back to original he will need a fender, fender reflector, leg shield trim, paint and dent removal on the cowl, and replacement of the lower cowl trim. All labor intensive and big bucks.

I'm sorry you guys had a spill today. I still remember mine like it was yesterday, and even though my arm and shoulder hurt like hell, I was so friggin sad about the scooter damage. It's really hard to describe how frustrating and upsetting it is, and having them be so new (like mine was) makes it feel even worse, I think.

Chin up guys. Glad you're (mostly) ok.

I had a damage estimate done in July at Motohio and the charge was $90. They have a body guy who comes over and does the work, I don't think they do it there.
I am sorry that happened to you guys.

I was afraid of that. Mike's damage is almost identical to yours.

You should check with your insurance company and ask them about the estimates before you shell out for it. Some companies will do their own estimates, some will pay for the estimate, and some will have specific companies that they contract with to do the estimates that they pay for. It varies, but ask them before you pay up yourself.

Sorry about the damages, get that foot checked out if it continues to hurt (nothing worse than when folks wait around too long and then there is nothing they can do-I have a good friend that screwed his knee up a few months ago and when he finally went to the doctor--last week :!: the doc had nothing he could do about it).

Cheers,

Well I guess I have the first scratch, first dent, make a really bad first impression hurdles out of the way. Painfull hurdles.... I smacked into each one.

My wife and I decided I'm going to pay for this "out of pocket" rather than file a claim. We have a huge insurance discount to both our cars and house because I have over ten years with no accidents/tickets/claims. If I do it through insurance, we'll end up paying a lot more for this whole thing over time. I'd love to have my scoot looking good as new, but I don't think that is realistic. The front fender got scratched, but it doesn't have any other damage (the reflectors can go byebye). I need to replace the leg shield trim, and have dent removal on the cowl and have it repainted. If I can get that done well, it will look like a scooter that is a year or two old.

Does anyone know a good source for the paint that Piaggio uses? I also need to find a source for the leg sheild trim.

Other than the obvious anger with myself and feeling really bad for Marc, I enjoyed meeting everyone. I didn't know if I would fit in with a well established group, but everyone was very nice to me and made me feel right at home, and for that I am very grateful.

Wow, I am so sorry for you guys! It is very upsetting to wreck. I did a while back, and like you guys, though I was hurt, I was still upset my perfect scooter wasn't anymore.
I hope you can get them back to beautiful soon:) I have heard many people say, everyone will wreck, it's just a matter of how/when. I didn't believe it and hoped I wouldn't, so you guys have all my sympathy, been there, done that! Warm regards for fast fixes, body and bike both...Sally

I thought the same thing, but I ain't playing insurance shenanigans. I have a lot of vehicles, and a house. If they wanna raise premiums etc, there's plenty of other insurance companies that would be glad to have my business.

I figure I pay for it, I'm using it. I figure it will be close to $1,000....which I currently don't have at the moment. $100 Deductible, I can swing.

Word of warning.....Motohio's labor cost is almost $100/hour. That can add up if you use 'em and paying out of pocket.

Don't worry...I'm on it. The insurance company asked to be faxed the estimate from the place performing the work. I just have to verify if Motohio is gonna charge for the obvious (estimate). They were closed today and Sunday. If they confirm, I'll call the insurance co back to see if they cover it, or have Motohio tack it into the estimate. Why not.
